News news news! Latest update (1.202) contains lots of optimizations, fixes, new blocks and introduces for the first time in this game low poly trees, vegetation, props and… full scale animated dinosaurs!! I hope you like the direction the game is taking!
Last weekend WrldCraft achieved an important milestone: one million blocks placed around the Earth in just a couple of weeks! This is just the first step of the WrldCraft mission: cover the world with blocks. This map shows the places on the Earth where players built their constructions.
Some other numbers: There are actually nearly 7000 places around the world where you can find what other users built, a bit more than 28000 gold blocks were digged and 6500 quests completed. Nearly 78% of these blocks were placed by iPhone and iPad owners.
WrldCraft is the first, huge, massively multiplayer, full scale augmented reality AR, geolocated, persistent, blocks based, cloud based, sandbox and exploration game with RPG elements taken from the glorious 8bit tradition where you can dig and mine gold and artifacts in the real world and cover the entire Earth with blocks.
Get ready your pickaxe, put comfortable shoes and sharpen your sword because the adventure starts with a global massive gold rush! Ready to mine gold in AR like a idle miner?
For the launch gold and golden veins are being spread all around the Earth and the players have to dig to find it. Like the real gold it is in the same point for everyone and once dug it is gone forever, so be fast! Pre-registered players and first week players will have more chances to find gold or relics on the map.
Players can download for free it from the App Store for iPhone and iPad and Google Play for ARCore supported Android devices.
Here some examples of what the player can do with WrldCraft: * Build persistent geolocated structures, for ever. * Cover the entire Earth with blocks and structures, connected each other. * Continue at home what you started outdoor, others will see in realtime the changes. * Quests * Fight monsters * Build outside public construction or make your private world on your table shared with friends only. * Multiplayer or single player fun. * Dig in the terrain to find gold, manufacts or relics * Share your creations with friends * For the launch date… gold rush!
WrldCraft development took nine months and it is built on the top of the latest AR technologies such as ARCore and ARKit with cross device persistent and shared augmentented reality experiences so, for example, the player can build full scale structures in a place side by side with friends and other players can visit and extend it later.
About Running Pixel Running Pixel is an Italy based one man army indie development studio backed up by Alfio Lo Castro, a game developer and game designer with years of experience and an insane passion for mixed and augmented reality, voxels, RPGs and game development.
Nightly scaring encounters testing WrldCraft. A little pixelated bat! Easy gold and XP.
Quests and monster fights are the latest nice additions to WrldCraft, this and the “gold rush”. Now the map will show you where there is gold or copper to dig. There resources are the same for everyone and once dug are gone forever, so… rush for gold!!
I refactored and updated the map, changing zoom factor, angle and adding a beautiful preview of the buildings around you. The same for the map used to retrieve your buildings when you’re at home (now it’s easier find the building and the place you want to).
From today on, until the 14 June (edit: some issue with the stores will delay the oficial release, sorry) all the beta releases will be focused on fixing the features and make the better user experience I can.
I want to give you a seamless experience expecially on the (geo)local multiplayer that could be tricky to use without the right UX.
If you’re a beta user keep your build updated using the PlayStore or the TestFlight.
May, the 15th. The Italy based indie developer Running Pixel is excited to announce that today starts the pre-registration for Wrldcraft, the cloud based geolocated augmented reality, persistent, massively multiplayer, sandbox and exploration game for iOS and Android mobile phones and tablets. The release date is set on June 14th 2019.
“Craft, dig, explore. Everywhere, forever, for real.“
WrldCraft is the first, huge, massively multiplayer, full scale augmented reality, geolocated, persistent, voxel based, cloud based, sandbox and exploration game that turns the entire world in a giant explorable sandbox full of fun and surprising interactive shareable experiences. Sounds cool enough? The player have all the power and fun of a open world MMORPG and the freedom of a sandbox game just in his hands. Craft full scale structures around the world, other people can visit them and help you building bigger castles if you want. Challenge your friends with the AR archery, fight monsters, explore and dig to discover the relics hidden around the world. All the things you build in the real world will remain forever in that place visible to everyone and under your control, even from you couch. Did you know? Structures can be connected each other for miles seamlessly, so you start from a point, your friends starts from a point miles away and both meet in the middle. You could even rebuild the Great Wall in another place of the world if you and your mates have anough time! Don’t want to make all that gamer things? So, just build your pretty house, a pool in a park or virtual street art, leave messages to your partner, visit other players creations and all the millions things you can do with Wrldcraft. WrldCraft is free to play.
WRLDCRAFT is cross platform and works on all the ARKit and ARCore enabled devices. Build in AR like no other before!
WrldCraft is ready for pre-order and pre-registration on both AppsStore and GooglePlay starting from today here:
About Running Pixel: RunningPixel is a one man army studio. Its main dev, Alfio Lo Castro, is a veteran in mobile games dev and was behind one of the most interesting and advanced AR project ever before it started working on Wrldcraft. Wrldcraft took 8 months of full time developing, a lot of overtime, and counting, and involved almost 2000 testers around the world.
From the build 0.920 WRLDCRAFT supports bows, arrows and target. This is a nice addition to the game and will let the player familiarize with archery. This release supports single player (the target block will be spawned into the real world and is persistent for other users as usul) but you can’t see othe player throwing arrows. Don’t worry, soon this will be extended to multiplayer and you will be enabled to challenge your friends.
BTW, in the meantime improve your skills and have fun with archery!
WRLDCRAFT has a story, a long story.
Everything starts in the Xbox Live Indie Games (XBLIG) age, God bless you XBLIG, platform and market where in 2012 I made a quite successful Minecraft Like sanbox game called Miner4Ever. XBLIG market does not exist anymore but loved that game and I learned a lot about voxel engines, shading techniques and multiplayer.
It was not enough, I wanted to port it in the real world and IRL. After some attempts with marker based AR (I lost the videos of that) the true plot twist was in 2017 when I put my hands on a mobile device with Google Tango in, that is a precursor of current ARKit and ARCore and this is what I did in early 2017 (a tech show-off video, not a real game).
So digging and building in real world with persistence using Augmented Reality was totally doable. Unfortunately there were not many Tango enabled phones around, so I put the project in standby waiting for a diffuse technology letting me do a real game with all the features I dreamt.
Today ARKit and ARCore are mature enough to do what I have in mind. Persitence, cross platform, world anchored buildings, cooperative building, multiplayer experience and much more.
Two months ago I leaved my daily job as Technical Leader, resumed my old dream, worked hard, and this is how WRLDCRAFT project is born!
It is raining a lot here in Turin, we can’t go out building stuffs around the city so we focused on the remote editor development.
The remote editor lets you edit from home the building you started in a place you own or lets you help your friends in building something great and lets you see what your friends are building on your piece of world while you’re at home. It’s a perfect tool to work to your creations alone or with friends if you can’t go out.
