WHAT YOU WILL GET
A beta of WRLDCRAFT with the core functionality enabled, like:
– Full AR sandbox creation, multiplayer and persistent
– Interactive maps to find you plot
– Unlimited plots of land claims (just build and that plot is yours). This will change in the official release so this is my little gift for you.
– Remote “table” AR editing of your plots
– [new] hidden blocks! Usefull to make invisible constructions with portals (coolest thing ever)
Now some caveats.
This is a beta heavily WIP, so:
– performances are not optimized (e.g. on iPhone 6s is slow as hell)
– UI and UX could change anytime and I know that needs to be improved based on your suggestions
– you can buld limitless and claim how many plots of land you want, but it is not guarantee that your hard work will last for ever. The game was internally tested but in case of abuse or severe bugs in the data structure you could loose everything.
– at this stage you have access to limited functionality and features, the goal is finding bugs in the core mechanics and get feedback about UI and UX.
[WORK IN PROGRESS]
A progress I’d like to share, the in game map. This map will be shown once you start an “outdoor” mode and helps out in finding buildings and crafted terrain nearby.
This map is essential, you know, to find stuffs in the real world, like your buildings, your friends buildings and special points of interest that will be added in the game later.
Your feedback is appreciated, let me know how do you feel with this style.
WRLDCRAFT has a story, a long story.
Everything starts in the Xbox Live Indie Games (XBLIG) age, God bless you XBLIG, platform and market where in 2012 I made a quite successful Minecraft Like sanbox game called Miner4Ever. XBLIG market does not exist anymore but loved that game and I learned a lot about voxel engines, shading techniques and multiplayer.
It was not enough, I wanted to port it in the real world and IRL. After some attempts with marker based AR (I lost the videos of that) the true plot twist was in 2017 when I put my hands on a mobile device with Google Tango in, that is a precursor of current ARKit and ARCore and this is what I did in early 2017 (a tech show-off video, not a real game).
So digging and building in real world with persistence using Augmented Reality was totally doable. Unfortunately there were not many Tango enabled phones around, so I put the project in standby waiting for a diffuse technology letting me do a real game with all the features I dreamt.
Today ARKit and ARCore are mature enough to do what I have in mind. Persitence, cross platform, world anchored buildings, cooperative building, multiplayer experience and much more.
Two months ago I leaved my daily job as Technical Leader, resumed my old dream, worked hard, and this is how WRLDCRAFT project is born!
It is raining a lot here in Turin, we can’t go out building stuffs around the city so we focused on the remote editor development.
The remote editor lets you edit from home the building you started in a place you own or lets you help your friends in building something great and lets you see what your friends are building on your piece of world while you’re at home. It’s a perfect tool to work to your creations alone or with friends if you can’t go out.
WRLDCRAFT is a massive multiplayer world scale augmented reality sandbox and exploration game for iOS and Android. Fully voxel based lets the player turning the entire world in a multiplayer and persistent sandbox blended with reality. The players can claim zones, start building and getting other player and friends contribute to their buildings. Player can simply edit his own piece of world or get other zones, trade the chunks of terrain with other players, help other in building things that all the other player would like to visit, build, dig for gold and gems, chase for treasures, explore “virtual” caves, leave messages to the world, remake monuments and piece of arts and so on, the only limit is the player immagination.
“WRLDCRAFT goal is turning the world in a democratic, community driven and open sandbox world where everyone can express itself. In a few words: ‘reshape the world’. WRLDCRAFT wants make it persistent and anchored to the reality. Imagine going to Piazza di Spagna in Rome or Central Park in New York and see what people is building in that place. It is like another, alternative, reality.” (Alfio Lo Castro – RunningPixel)
WRLDCRAFT will be available for all the ARKit and ARCore enabled devices.
WRLDCRAFT will go soon in a closed beta stage. If you want to be one of the first trying it please fill this form.
